Funerals of GMIT students who died in Belgium fire to take place this week

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The funerals of two GMIT students who died following a house fire in Belgium is to take place in their home countries of Latvia and Poland later this week.

22 year old Dace Zarina from Longford and 19 year old Sara Gibaldo from Oranmore were killed when the blaze broke out last Friday morning.

Both of the women were second year students in the Bachelor of Business degree in hotel and catering management at GMIT and were on Erasmus placements.

GMIT has now opened a book of condolence in the main campus on Dublin Road and a service is also being scheduled to commemorate the students.
