Music for Galway’s flagship project for Galway European Capital of Culture 2020 is an international cello festival Cellissimo

The inaugural Cellissimo Festival will take place from April 25 to May 3, 2020, when cellists, young and old, from all over the globe will gather in Galway. They will perform together over the nine days, sharing their gifts with audiences, while learning from and inspiring each other, according to the Artistic Director of Music for Galway, Finghin Collins, who’s also in charge of this new festival.

“We are going to make Galway a new destination for excellence in all things cello,” he said, describing the event as “a new adventure for Galway, a new festival for Ireland”.

To support this unique festival, Music for Galway is hosting a Fundraising Gala in the city’s Meyrick Hotel on Friday, March 1, and all support would be appreciated.

There will be a Champagne reception, four-course gala dinner, an exclusive performance by members of Cello Ireland, a collective of Ireland’s best cellists, and the presentation of the inaugural Laochra Ceoil Cellissimo Award. This will be awarded to a person who has distinguished themselves in the music industry and the recipient will be present – the winner has yet to be revealed.
