FUNDING SETBACK FOR HISTORIC CITY FOOTBRIDGE

A funding application to repair an historic city footbridge has encountered a major setback.

The dilapidated footbridge leading to the Fisheries Tower at Wolfe Tone bridge is hanging, which has prevented access to the building since 2007.

The application to fund construction work failed to pass the capital investment advisory committee stage last week and will now not come before the Failte Ireland board for approval as was hoped.

A meeting of the Natural Environment and Waterways Committee was informed of the decision yesterday [Dec 15].
