Galway Bay fm newsroom – Funding has been secured for a long awaited new school building for Clifden.

It’s part of a 200 million euro national stimulus plan to invest in public infrastructure including schools announced by government today.

The funding for the North Connemara school follows widespread local disappointment when the facility was omitted from the Department’s five year building plan last year.

Connemara Area Councillor Eileen Mannion says work is set to commence in the autumn.

County Galway will see the greatest number of school projects delivered under the stimulus plan with five listed for investment, including new facilities for Clifden and Scoil Mhuire Maree Oranmore.

Others to get refurbishments or extensions include St. Raphael’s College in Loughrea, Holary Rosary College in Mountbellew and Sailearna in Inverin.

Galway West Labour TD Derek Nolan says the stimulus plan will see the creation of many local construction jobs.
