FUNDING FOR THE WESTERN RAIL CORRIDOR TO BE REVIEWED POST-2016

Funding for the Western Rail Corridor will be reviewed again when the new Capital Investment Programme post 2016 is drawn up.

That’s according to campaign group West On Track who has received the reassurance and clarification from Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony.

It follows newspaper reports this week in which it was stated that the Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said the Western Rail Corridor "was not even going to be extended to Tuam".

Deputy O’ Mahony told West On Track that the position is that within the current Capital Investment Programme to 2016, funds are not provided to extend the line further.

However, it will be reviewed again when the post-2016 programme is being drawn up.
