Failte Ireland is expected to decide next month on funding to replace a dilapidated historic footbridge in the city.

The footbridge leading to the fisheries tower in the city is hanging, and this has prevented access to the building since 2007.

Funding is available from the Fisheries Board for the design of a new footbridge, but further funding is needed from Failte Ireland to build the new bridge.

A special committee will consider the application on September 8th, and then forward the application to the full board of Fáilte Ireland.

The bridge will cost in the region of 2 hundred thousand euro to design and construct.
