FUNDING CRISIS ENDS SALTHILL AIRSHOW
Date Published: 04-Dec-2007
The Salthill Airshow, which has been an annual event for the past 15 years, will not be going ahead next year
The organisers of the free event have decided not to go ahead with the Airshow anymore due to a serious lack of funding
Questions had been raised about the future of the Airshow earlier this year, when organisers revealed that they had financial difficulties after the June event
An accident in which a door fell from a display helicopter on a member of the public, injuring them, also seemed to mar the event
The Airshow had generated crowds of over a hundred thousand in previous years, boosting the economy of not only Salthill but Galway and the West
Organisers say they had to deal with opposition to the Airshow every year from politicians and anti-war groups
Brian McGrath of Salthill Airshow told Keith Finnegan today that’s he’s upset and saddened that the Show must come to an end
