Funding approved to refurbish 53 vacant local authority houses in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – 758 thousand euro has been secured to bring 53 vacant local authority houses in Galway back into use.
The funding announced by the Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan this afternoon aims to transform one thousand vacant units around the country into high quality family homes.
The county has been allocated 515 thousand euro to return 32 vacant units to use.
The local authority average unit cost is over 16 thousand euro.
The city will receive 243 thousand euro towards 21 vacant units.
This involves an average unit cost of over 11 thousand 500 euro.
Nationally, 1 thousand vacant units will be restored at a cost of 15 million euro.
Minister Jan O’Sullivan says the investment will also support the creation of jobs in the construction sector.
She says many of the restored units should be coming on stream within the coming months.
