Fun night in store as Booka Brass Band return

Booka Brass Band make a welcome return to Róisín Dubh on Friday, March 6.  With seven brass instruments and a drummer, the Dublin based band all but lifted the roof off the Dominick Street venue when they played there at last year’s Arts Festival.

Inspired by the New Orleans brass sound, the Dubliners play their own material alongside winning covers. They put a kick in to some Beyonce songs, with stomping versions of Survivor by Destiny’s Child and the singer’s breakthrough solo hit Crazy in Love. One of the trumpet players gave the crowd a rendition of the Sugarhill Gang classic Rapper’s Delight last Summer and there was a great version of Jungle Boogie, made famous by the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.

The Booka Brass Band were formed in November 2012 and since then have gone from strength to strength on the live music scene in Ireland. With regular shows in venues all over Dublin including The Sugar Club, Whelan’s and Twisted Pepper, they have also played stomping sets to festival crowds at Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions and Longitude. They also collaborated with Jerry Fish and Lisa Hannigan for the duo’s New Year’s Eve Mixtape show at Vicar Street

The atmosphere at their previous Galway show was electric – expect the same this time around. Tickets for the Booka Brass Band are €10, doors 9pm.
