Fun and mayhem with Community Circus

Galway Community Circus will host its second ever Mayhem Youth Circus Festival from May 22-30, with a mix of in-person and online performances, games, workshops and circus talks. All are free.

Events include Healthy Ireland Funambulism Workshops, which feature the art of tightwire walking with a balancing pole. This is billed as “a fun way to practise your balance, mindfulness and self-awareness and suitable for all body types, ages and fitness levels”.

Park Up Your Circus is a series of outdoor taster workshops, consisting of introductory activities where participants will play games and learn tips to improve their solo acrobatics, juggling and circus skills.

Online events will include talks on Zoom, including ‘Our Love for The Streets’. That will include a performance of ‘New Stool – Old Fool’ by Grant Goldie, commissioned by the National Circus Festival of Ireland.

It will be followed by a chat with singer-songwriter Nicole Blue of the Galway Buskers’ Community about what street performance and busking means to Galway.

Running Away with the Circus is a panel discussion about what the European volunteering experience can offer volunteers, circus schools and their communities. Participants can find out more about the European Solidarity Corps programme and how they can take part in it.
