Frontline four make full Covid recovery
Four healthcare workers, who contracted Covid-19 while on duty at University Hospital Galway, have now all recovered, the Connacht Tribune has learned.
The good news coincides with the latest figures for Galway showing Covid-19 has been suppressed and almost eliminated from the community.
Another positive indicator came in critical care capacity of local hospitals – Intensive Care Units in UHG and Portiuncula were free of Covid-19 and suspect Covid-19 patients on Tuesday.
Leona Paula Leoncio, a staff nurse at UHG, who battled for more than a week in ICU after contracting the virus, is now out of critical care and recovering at home.
The 36-year-old Filipino was one of four staff who got infected from a patient, who had a ‘false negative’ Covid-19 test.
A hospital source confirmed the other workers had also recovered from their health scare.
“It was frightening, and made it all very real for us, co-workers. It is great that they have recovered,” said one nurse.
The Philippine Consulate in Dublin also confirmed Ms Leoncio was out of hospital. “Yes, she is already safe, thank God,” a spokesperson told the Tribune.
