Galway visit...Courtney Cox and Johnny McDaid.

There were strong rumours around Gort over Christmas that two VIP guests were making friends in the locality – holed up for a romantic getaway in the stunning surrounds of Lough Cutra Castle.

Courtney Cox, star of the evergreen sitcom Friends and her fiancé, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, are said to have been ‘on a break’ for three or four nights at the 600-acre estate.

The couple are no strangers to these shores, McDaid hailing from Derry and were reportedly planning to tie the knot in his hometown this winter.

A spokesperson for Lough Cutra Castle told the Connacht Tribune they could not confirm nor deny the couple’s visit and said: “One of the reasons people come here is because of our discretion.”

The estate, located on the outskirts of the town, has played host to many a big name in recent years, with Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla among the names in the visitors’ book.
