FRIENDS OF THE FOREST GROUP TO RALLY AT CITY HALL
Date Published: 06-Oct-2008
The ‘Friends of the Forest’ group will rally outside Galway City Council this evening looking for a refundable levy to be introduced on all discarded drink cans and bottles.
The group wants the City Council to lobby the Government on the matter and feel the refundable levy would have a positive impact on the environment.
They say providing an economic incentive to clean up parks, roads and waterways will also help with the expense of litter management.
The Forest group is encouraging people to join in their pro-tree, pro-park rally outside City Hall at half six this evening.
The aim of the demonstration is to remind public representatives of their environmental responsibilities.
Over 10 thousand people signed a petition earlier this year demanding an end to a proposed new road through Terryland Forest.
