FRESH PROPOSALS TO MERGE NUIG AND GMIT

Galway’s two third level colleges could be merged as part of a nationwide plan to form four regional clusters of excellence.

It’s just one of the proposals in a new report compiled by the Higher Education Authority.

The plan would see NUI Galway and GMIT merged in the Border/Midlands and West regional cluster with Sligo IT, St. Angela’s, Athlone IT and Letterkenny IT.
