The seventh Annual Strange Brew Summer Shindig takes place in the Róisín Dubh on Thursday, July 28. The Shindig acts as a showcase for local and national indie bands, and has as an early start (8pm) due to an incredibly packed bill.
The full line-up of this year’s Summer Shindig is Le Galaxie, Lost Chord, So Cow, Sleep Thieves, Jogging, We Are Losers, Funeral Suits, Go Panda, Daithí and Elaine Mai.
Le Galaxie bring a wall of electronica to their live shows, and lead singer Michael enjoys playing to people seeing them for the first time
"At the moment what we’re really enjoying is getting up in front of a crowd of strangers and trying to win them over,” he says. “It’s so much more enjoyable. When we go up there and see the hands go up or see the heads nodding, there’s nothing like it. If you can win strangers over, and not your mates, you’re on the right road."
Daithí is the stage name of Clare fiddler Daithí Ó Drónaí who uses electronic loop pedals and beats to augment his fluid string playing.
“I’m using an awful lot of samplers, the fiddle and synthesisers,” Daithí says. “I’m building up a one-man band and there’s a whole pile of different influences. There’s a traditional side of things and there’s an indie-rock side of things. More recently it’s getting electronic because of the equipment I use.”
This time next year you may well have to pay to see many of these bands. But, for now, they’re all under the one roof – and it’s free. Doors 8pm.
