Four million euro invested in Galway City transport in 2012

Galway bay fm newsroom -Almost four million euro was invested in the construction and implementation of sustainable transport measures in Galway city last year.

That’s according to the 2012 Regional Cities Report published by the National Transport Authority.

Two and a half million euro was allocated to the Bishop O’Donnell/Seamus Quirke Road Improvement Scheme, which was completed in June last year.

A further 400-thousand was spent on the Galway City Urban Traffic Management and Control Centre, and 200-thousand euro was invested in the construction of upgrades to the Wellpark Road/Connolly Avenue junction.

Other projects funded by the Regional Cities Programme included the upgrading of city centre cycle-parking and pedestrian crossings.

In the county, a payment of almost 290-thousand euro was used to resolve outstanding contractual issues relating to the 3.42 kilometer bus corridor on the N17 at Claregalway.
