FOUR INJURED AIRLIFTED AFTER ARAN ISLAND HORSE AND TRAP ACCIDENT

FOUR people were airlifted to University Hospital, Galway after an accident involving a horse and trap on the Aran Islands this afternoon.
The incident happened on the island of Inish Mor and the alarm was raised shortly after 1 pm.
The Irish Coast Guard in Valencia was contacted and an air force helicopter was alerted.
It was returning from another mission, searching for a missing person off the Kerry coast, and it quickly made its way to Inishmor and airlifted the injured to UHG shortly before 2.30 pm.
Those injured, a local man in charge of the trap and three German tourists have been treated at the Galway Hospital and it is understood that their injuries are not life threatening.
Gardai at Kilronan are continuing their investigations into the incident.
