FOUR HSE WEST STAFF LOSE JOBS DUE TO ABSENTEEISM
The HSE West is working to tackle absenteeism, with four members of staff losing their jobs in the last 12 months due to inappropriate use of sick leave schemes.
The figures were discussed at last evening’s HSE West Regional Health Forum meeting where Cllr Padraig Conneely highlighted that the 4.4 percent figure for GUH for 2012 was still above the national target of 3.5 percent.
Regional Director of HR Francis Rogers told members that 90 percent of staff off sick in the West in 2012 were certified by a GP.
Mr. Rogers told Galway Bay fm news that in the West area in 2012, 13 thousand return-to-work discussions were held with staff, one thousand had trend reviews and over 200 were suspended from the sick leave scheme.
He added that trends involving single sick days such as Mondays and Fridays surrounding bank holidays are not the common case now but ARE being monitored and dealt with
