Four Galway boxers on the threshold of National Elite senior glory
FOUR Galway boxers will be chasing National Elite senior glory on Friday night – a scenario which underlines the rude health of the sport in the county.
Adam Hession of Monivea BC, Gabriel Dossen of Olympic BC, Kieran Molloy of Oughterard BC and Keisha Attwell of Tonar Pheader BC all stand on the brink of gold medal triumphs.
And in a remarkable coincidence, Hession, Molloy and Dossen will be bidding to emulate their achievements of two years ago when they also won titles at senior elite level.
In what was a stunning and unprecedented night of success for Galway boxing in February of 2019, Thomas O’Toole of Celtic Eagles – now in the professional ranks – was also successful on the same programme.
To put that achievement into context, Galway had previously only won seven elite titles in the history of the Irish boxing championships.
Now that opportunity presents itself again with Keisha Attweel, who received a bye in the women’s 66kg semi-final last weekend, joining Galway’s 2019 champions in their pursuit of gold.
