Four days into the summer heatwave – now comes the water shortage!
JUST four days into a dry spell and Galway County Council has already issued public notices about cuts to the water supply.
Due to the current dry weather spell and an increase in water consumption, water schemes in Ballygar, Dunmore/Glenamaddy, Williamstown, Ballymoe, Kilkerrin/Moylough have night time restrictions between midnight and 6am.
The Council is also imposing a hosepipe ban for the next week to help conserve water and ensure continuity of supply.
But the good news for the rest of us is that our settled spell of high pressure looks set to stay with us for at least the next week – even if it doesn’t threaten the 29° Celsius peaks of recent days.
Slightly cooler conditions are forecast for the weekend and the early days of next week with temperatures in the low 20s, but all of the major forecasters are predicting that the fine spell to take us well into next week.
Weather-forecast.com predicts that the high pressure will still predominate in the west by Friday week, although the BBC are cautioning that a change might be on the way around then.
Met Eireann predicts no major change between now and the mid-week period, apart from the onset of slightly cooler conditions.
