FORMER Tuam Town Councillor Paul O’Grady, is seen as frontrunner to be co-opted back on to the town board, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Counciller Peter Warren.

Fine Gael’s nominee for the vacant seat will be selected an the AGM of the Tuam branch in the Ard Ri House Hotel this Sunday night.

Former Councillor O’Grady narrowely missed out on being reelected at the last local elections, having already served on the board for two previous terms.

He is a past President of the Vintners Federation of Ireland and a former President of Tuam Chamber of Commerce.

At tonight’s convention he may face competition from Francis Cahill who is also being put forward, but as she lives out in the Corofin area, she will not be able to vote for herself.

She has come to work in the area in recent times and is also Chairperson of the Fine Gael Women’s Group and a national executive member of the party.
