Former McDonagh hardware store in city to become cookery school
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The warehouse which formerly housed McDonagh Hardware in the city centre is set to be transformed from a retail store into a restaurant and cookery school.
Talebury Holdings has been granted planning permission for alterations to the building at 1 to 3 Merchants road, which houses Meadows and Byrne and Blarney Woolen Mills.
The development at Merchants Road will include the construction of a new food preparation area and kitchen.
The retail space will also be transformed into a restaurant and cookery class area.
In granting permission for the changes, the City Council has imposed 12 conditions.
One condition stipulates that no canopies can be erected at the building, despite the applicant seeking permission for 4 such canopies.
Also, the grant of permission doesn’t include any works to the original fabric of the building, including hoists between floors, as the building is a protected structure.
