FORMER MAYOR HITS OUT AT PLANS TO INCREASE COMMERCIAL RATES

Former Mayor of Galway Councillor Niall O Brolcháin has criticised suggestions that commercial rates will have to be increased to cater for the shortfall in Government finances

The suggestions follow recent reports that this will be the only way to increase the coffers of local authorities as the government fights the downturn in the economy

The Green Party Councilllor said that the City Council would next month [sept] begin the process of organising the 80 million budget, which would be finalised by December
