Date Published: 17-Apr-2013

Expert witness Dr. Peter Boylan, a former Master at the National Maternity Hospital has now taken the witness stand at the Savita inquest at County Hall.

The consultant obstetrician in gynaecology at the National Maternity Hospital told the inquest that the majority of his publications relate to care of women and babies during the course of labour.

After Dr. Boylan concludes his evidence, the inquest will hear from Dr. Frans Colesky who did the post mortem on the placenta, and Dr. Michael Tan Chien Sheng who did the post-mortem on the foetus.

The Coroner hopes that a verdict will be reached by Friday.

Earlier this morning the inquest heard that some of her vital signs were not checked in the 9 and a half hour period before she was diagnosed with an infection.

The 31 year old year dentist died from septicaemia following a miscarriage at Galway University Hospital on October 28th last.

Mid-wife manager Ann Maria Burke who was recalled by the coroner insists she’s one hundred per cent certain she informed a doctor that Savita had an elevated pulse on the Tuesday evening before her miscarriage.

The house doctor says he was told her vital signs were normal.

It’s emerged during his evidence that not all of the 31 year old’s vital signs were checked between 9pm Tuesday and 6.30 the following morning when Savita was diagnosed with an infection of the foetal membranes.
