The former IBIS Hotel in Galway city is to be turned into an asylum-seeker accommodation centre.

The hotel in Liosban has been renamed Lisbrook House and will cater for families of all nationalities until 2011.

The Reception & Integration Agency is responsible for accommodating asylum seekers while their applications for asylum are being considered by the Department of Justice.

Today the Justice Department has confirmed the RIA has just signed a 3-year contract with Bridgestock Ltd to provide accommodation for asylum seekers at Lisbrook House, formerly the IBIS Hotel, off Kirwan Roundabout in the city.

It’s understood the property is owned by a local businessman who’s leasing it to Bridgestock Ltd.
