Former Barna parish worker plans weekend protest
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A former employee in the Diocese of Galway, who plans to protest outside a church this weekend has been threatened with court action, according to SIPTU.
Ann Marie Horan worked as a co-ordinator in the parish of Barna for 6 years before she was made redundant last month.
She says it follows concerns she raised about her job role in May.
SIPTU says it sought a meeting with the parish priest in Barna with a view to having Ann Marie Horan reinstated.
However, they say that the priest refused the proposal.
According to today’s Irish Examiner, the union also wrote to Bishop of Galway, Martin Drennan, but he declined to intervene.
SIPTU says it has received written threats of an injunction from solicitors representing the church if Ms. Horan goes ahead with her protest outside the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen in Barna on Sunday.
