ALTHOUGH there are two outstanding group games to be played, it is confirmed that Kilkerrin/Clonberne will face Caltra Cuans and Claregalway will meet Corofin in this year’s Galway LGFA senior championship semi-finals on the weekend of September 12.

Meanwhile, Moycullen, who still have to face Kilkerrin/Clonberne in their remaining group game, are already heading for a relegation battle, where they will face the loser of the this weekend’s fixture between Glenamaddy/Williamstown and Annaghdown.

 Claregalway  5-14

 Annaghdown 0-4

It was as facile as the scoreline suggests as Claregalway hammered home four goals in the opening half against a struggling Annaghdown outfit to propel Eugene Kearney’s charges to the top of Group 1.

As a result, Claregalway booked a senior championship semi-final berth against Corofin in a fortnight’s time and, on this evidence, they look to be in fine fettle heading into the knockouts.

Two Kate Slevin goals in the opening quarter against Annaghdown set them on their way to victory in Cregg last Saturday and with Megan Glynn and Louise Brennan netting after the water break, the outcome was never in doubt as the victors led 4-6 to 0-2 at the interval.

Another Glynn goal on 37 minutes further extended their advantage as Claregalway emptied their bench by introducing all five substitutes. Two of those, Maeve Moran (2) and Laura Scanlon, also got in on the scoring act by kicking some neat points in the second period.
