Folk Choir Christmas efforts reap rewards
Date Published: 24-Jan-2008
A Ballinasloe choir which has managed to capture the true spirit of Christmas has once again provided a massive New Year boost to local charities.
Some years ago the St. Michael’s Folk Choir in Ballinasloe decided to revive carol singing for the festive season and the monies raised
would go to local charities.
The choir, under Sr. Michael, was supplemented by members of other choirs in the locality and at times had over forty singers performing, with even members of the public joining in.
Every year, on Christmas Eve, the choir entertain the public at the top of St. Michael’s Square with three hours of non-stop festive carols, backed by organists Anne and Adrian Jordan.
To date over €28,000 has been raised and among the charities that have benefited are the Social Services, St. Michael’s Church Building Fund, Ballinasloe Wheelchair Association and the Irish Cancer Society.
