Date Published: 24-Jan-2008
THE big squelch continues in Galway this week after the wettest mid-winter period in 13 years.
Over six inches of rain has fallen in the first 22 days of January leaving thousands of hectares of farmland flooded in different parts of the county.
The situation in the Shannon Catchment area has been described as being ‘within a couple of inches of a disaster’.
Connacht IFA Vice-President Michael Silke said that floods were now coming within a couple of inches of floor levels in both homes and in farm sheds.
