A national flood warning system that could help prevent homes and businesses in Galway being damaged to the same extent as last year, could take years to set up.

It’s been revealed that a report to examine the case for such a system is still underway and is not expected to be completed until next year.

An estimated one billion euro worth of flood damage was caused across the country last year including parts of Galway, Cork, Galway, Clare and Tipperary.

Ballinasloe area councillor Tim Broderick says Government red tape is preventing many projects from being completed quickly.
