Joe Byrne: Welcome for 'on-the-ground' visits.

BY FRANCIS FARRAGHER

THE return of ‘on-the-ground’ and ‘in-person’ consultations with South Galway land and property owners since last week – on the proposed flood relief scheme for the area – has been welcomed locally.

While the initial public consultation process on the scheme had been scheduled to run from February 26 to April 3 last, the Covid restrictions had prevented on-site visits to those affected during that period.

However, the on-site visits have now resumed since Monday week last, May 17, and will continue for most of June – local Kinvara councillor, Joe Byrne, has urged all affected to make use of this current window for consultations.

“Galway County Council is the lead agency in the project with two consultancy firms – Ryan Hanley Engineering and Mott MacDonald (environmental) – involved in the consultations with local people.

“While the virtual consultations might have been okay for some people, there is no doubting that the on-the-ground, face-to-face meetings with local farmers and property owners, is the ideal set-up.
