A fleet of nearly 200 supercars worth an estimated €30 million will take to the roads of Galway this weekend with the return of the annual Cannonball event to the city.

The supercar spectacle which takes place over the weekend of September 9-11 was last in Galway in 2014.

The world’s top marque cars such as McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Masseratti, Rolls Royce and Bentley will all be on display on the streets of the city.

The fundraiser event will return to Galway on the Saturday at 6pm with a mighty roar. On the last time it was here, thousands lined the streets and along the Salthill Promenade where fans got up close and personal with the elite cars.

Now in its eight year, the Supercar spectacle has raised over €850,000 for Irish charities and, this year, proceeds will go to Pieta House.

Sponsored by Manhattan Popcorn, Cannonball goes up a gear this year with 190 supercars and over 150,000 spectators expected to line the streets all over Ireland, making it the largest ever such event.

Cannonball is not a race but an organised road rip and the gleaming convoy will drive through 900KM of Irish open roads with stops in Dublin, Cavan, Westport, Bunratty, Galway, Tullamore and Wexford.

The start line will be at the Point Village, Dublin on Friday, September 9 at 9am.

After its stint in Galway City, the final stage sets off from the Galway Plaza at Kiltullagh on Sunday, September 11 at 10am.  The atmosphere will be electric as fans can get up close and personal with the world’s top cars.  Extra family fun attractions have been planned for the morning including the Red Bull Formula One simulator, face painting, balloon modelling, River Rock Goal Games and a host of large animated characters.  There will also be extra parking and giveaways on the day.

The finish line at each host town will be infused with an electric atmosphere featuring Las Vegas Show Girls, live music, DJs, The Monster Energy JAM Truck, local entertainers and dignitaries, confetti cannons, lots of Manhattan popcorn, and official merchandise.

A quarter of the supercars are coming in from the UK, Europe and even Dubai and they will have a combined value of an estimated €30 million.

The success of Cannonball Ireland has led to international events in Scotland, Wales, and across the continent.
