A 23-year-old man was sentenced to a further eight months in prison this week for exposing his genitals to two members of staff at the A&E Department at UHG last December.

Remi Macula, 52 Fearann Rí, Doughiska, is already serving a three-month prison term, imposed on him last month at Ennis District Court for masturbating on board a Shannon-bound Ryanair flight from Manchester on February 4 last.

Macula pleaded not guilty before Galway District Court on February 28 last to two separate charges of exposing his genitals to two female members of A&E staff on December 5 last, intending to cause fear, distress or to alarm another person, contrary to Section 45(1) of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017.

The contested case was adjourned for hearing before Judge Mary Fahy at the scheduled sittings of Galway District Court last Monday.

However, it was transferred that afternoon to another sitting of Galway District Court where Judge Marie Keane was already hearing other contested cases.

Macula changed his pleas to guilty when he was taken to Judge Keane’s court.

She sentenced him to four months in prison on each charge, with the sentences to run consecutively to each other.

She also directed the sentences commence on the termination of the sentence Macula is currently serving for the Ryanair flight offence.
