FIVE STUDENTS RESCUED FROM CITY HOUSE FIRE

Five women were rescued from a house fire in the city this morning.[13/1]

The alarm was raised at 4am when a fire started in an upstairs bedroom at a student house in Greenfields, Newcastle.

Two units of Galway Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and evacuated the women from the house.

All five were taken to UHG suffering from smoke inhalation, while one woman suffered burns to her hands and legs.

Meanwhile,
Four people were injured in a crash just outside the city last night. [12/1]

Two men and two women were travelling in a car which hit a wall near Ballindooley Cross on the Headford Road around 10pm.

The four people, in their 20s and 50s suffered multiple injuries, although they’re not thought to be life-threatening.
