FIVE PEOPLE INJURED ON ARAN ISLANDS

Five people were airlifted to hospital from the Aran Islands last evening[16/8] after an accident involving a pony and trap.

Four Italian tourists and a local man suffered head injuries when the trap overturned at Kilronan on Inis Mór yesterday afternoon.

The Shannon-based Coastguard helicopter was called to the scene and transferred the five people to University Hospital Galway.

Their injuries were not serious.
