First outbound bus lane due this year

Preliminary works on the city’s first outbound bus lane — from Moneenageisha to Renmore — is to begin later this Summer.
Commuting times from the east of the city into the city centre have improved for bus and taxi users, thanks to the provision of the reserved corridor which stretches for most of the way between Merlin Park and Bon Secours Hospitals.
However, the same could not be said for the home journey, as there was no bus lane heading outbound from the city — the new route will change that.
Galway City Council have invited tender applications from contractors for a cycle facility and bus lane on the R339 Dublin Road.
The full scheme will extend for approximately 1.8km from the Ffrench Roundabout (Moneenageisha Cross) and terminate at the Skerritt Roundabout (former Corrib Great Southern Hotel), although the quality bus corridor will……………………….
