A giant cargo ship carrying the Volvo Ocean Race village will come into sight on Galway Bay at around 3 this afternoon.

The Dutch vessel has made its way from Lisbon with 62 crates of the assembly-ready spectator village on board.

The containers include components to make up each team base and the Volvo pavillion.

It’s set to arrive at Galway Docks at around 5.30 this evening.

Speaking on Galway Talks, Harbour Master Captain Brian Sheridan says it’s the first real container ship ever to enter Galway Bay.
