FIRE SERVICES TACKLE MOUNTAIN FIRE IN WOODFORD

Fires crews are currently tackling a gorse fire in the Woodford area.

Two units from Portumna received the alert at around 5.30 this morning and are now attending the extensive blaze at Ulick’s Mountain.

Last evening, one unit of the city brigade was called to a small forest fire on the Dyke Road in the city just before 9pm.

A small gorse fire was also reported near the Palm Tree pub in Corofin just after 9pm which was quickly brought under control.

With the exception of these calls, it was one of the less demanding nights for the fire services after a week of intense pockets of gorse fires countywide, as the cold and dry weather continues.
