Galway Gardaí are warning the public about the dangers of setting alight gorse, following the recent spate of fires across the county.

Gardaí and the fire services have been on high alert since the Easter Weekend.

Emergency services are this evening attending the scene of a forest fire in Roscahill, however it’s not known how extensive the blaze is at this stage.

This afternoon crews were called to gorse fires in the Furbo, Maam cross and Tuam areas which now have been brought under control.

It follows overnight fires in areas across the region.

Inspector at Galway Garda station, Brendan O’Connor, says patrols are taking place and any breaches of the wildlife act will be investigated.
