FIRE SERVICES ON HIGH ALERT FOLLOWING COUNTYWIDE GORSE BLAZES

The fire services are on high alert following a series of gorse fires throughout the county.
Chief Fire Officer Michael Raftery says there has been great demand on crews throughout the weekend with nine calls on Friday, 22 on Easter Saturday, 13 on Easter Sunday and a further 8 yesterday.
Emergency services are still observing gorse fires in the Spiddal area in Baile an tSagairt and Baile An TSléibhe.
Up to six units were rotating to battle the blazes since last evening.
Elsewhere in Oranmore, a large gorse fire in the Frenchfort area was brought under control at 4.30 this morning.
It followed other weekend gorse fires in areas including the Curragh Line and Cleggan.
