FIRE SERVICES BATTLE GORSE AND FOREST FIRES ACROSS WEST GALWAY

It was yet another busy night for the fire services with gorse and forest fires across west Galway.

Crews have been battling multiple blazes since last evening until the early hours of this morning.

The first call out concerned a gorse fire in Doon East in the Oughterard area which broke out at around 5 last evening with crews battling to control it until midnight.

In the Clifden area, a large gorse fire broke out in Waterloo Bridge, east of the town, at around 8.30 last evening.

Three units from Clifden and one from Westport battled the blaze all night with the last crew leaving at 6 this morning.

In Recess in Connemara, one unit from Ballinrobe attended a gorse fire at around 10.50 last night and remained at the scene until 7 this morning.

While, in Letter in Moycullen, a large forest fire was reported at around 3am.

Two units of the city fire brigade, assisted by Coillte, worked to control it until midnight.
