Galway Bay fm newsroom – A new national framework for fire safety is expected to bring some clarity on the provision of fire services in South Connemara.

A presentation on the document ‘Keeping communities safe’ was presented to councillors at a meeting of the county council this week.

It means all 10 fire stations in Galway will undergo an area risk categorisation to determine if adequate arrangements are in place.

Cllr. Sean O Tuairisg questioned if this report would deliver a fire station for the South Connemara saying he was concerned about the criteria on risk assessment.

Cllr. Seosamh Ó Cuaig compared Connemara to Leitrim saying that although the population was bigger in his electoral area, it had just one fire station while Leitrim had 5.

Director of services with responsibility for emergency services Eugene Cummins says that when the analysis is done it will bring clarity for Connemara.
