FIRE FIGHTERS TACKLE FIRE IN MOUNTBELLEW
Date Published: 02-May-2011
Fire fighters are still attempting to control a major bog and gorse fire in the Mountbellew area that broke out last evening.
Local Gardaí say the flames at lands in the Springlawn area are several feet high, and the fire has so far claimed around 14 hectares of Coillte forrestry.
It’s understood there is no immediate danger to any homes or properties in the area.
Last evening, fire crews from Mountbellew, Roscommon, and others areas fought the blaze with the help of a Helicopter.
Fire services are continuing to battle the fire this morning and Mountbellew Gardaí are monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, Coillte forestry staff are continuing to monitor a fire in the Connemara area, that claimed hundreds of acres of lands.
It’s understood the fire, which is still smouldering at lands in Recess is now under control.
