Fine Gael is heading up a technical alliance with Labour and 3 Independents to take control of the new county council at tomorrow’s first meeting.

The 13 Fine Gael councillors, Labour’s Colm Keaveney and Independents Tom Welby, Jim Cuddy and Timmy Broderick reached agreement last night.

Their membership of 17 means they will have the majority on the thirty member council and fill the position of County Mayor for the next five years.

Fine Gael whip on the council Cllr Jarlath McDonagh says Tuam Cllr Tom McHugh will be the first to take the position of Mayor, along with three other Fine Gael and one Independent.
