FILE FOR DPP FOLLOWING BARNA COLLISION WHICH KILLED TIPPERARY STUDENT

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to a hit-and-run accident in Barna which claimed the life of a 19 year old man yesterday.

The collision happened close to Barna Golf Club shortly after 2.30am yesterday[Sun 4/10] when Andrew Walsh from Fethard in Tipperary was struck by a car.

A 21 year old man and a youth were questioned in relation to the collision but were later released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

It’s understood that the student, was attending a 21st birthday party in Barna.

He was walking on a minor road in the area around 2.30am yesterday when he was struck by a car.

Assistant State pathologist Khalid Jaber, is due to carry out the post mortem examination at University Hospital Galway later.

It was the second fatality on Galway roads over the weekend.

39 year old, father-of-three, David Kelly from Sean Bóthar, Monument Road was killed in a single car crash on the Moycullen road in the early hours of Saturday.
