FIDELMA HEALY EAMES WINS SENATE SEAT

Galway Fine Gael County councillor Fidelma Healy-Eames has been elected to the Seanad.

She was elected to the Labour Panel early this morning in a nail-biter by just one vote on the 23rd count.

Senator Healy-Eames will now have to give up her seat representing the Oranmore-Headford area on Galway county council.

A Fine Gael source has indicated moves to fill the Fine Gael vacancy on the council will begin towards the end of the summer.

A name will be put forward by the party at a co-option convention which is expected to take place in early September.
