Traditional music fans in Galway are in for a real treat when the internationally renowned fiddle player Martin Hayes performs a solo concert in the city this Saturday, March 31.

Regarded as one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music, Co Clare native Martin Hayes’ unique sound, his mastery of his instrument, and his acknowledgement of the past and his shaping of the future of the music, have combined to create an astonishing and formidable artistic intelligence, and an engaging live performer. The holder of six All-Ireland fiddle championships – all before the age of 19 – he has recorded two acclaimed solo albums, and is the Artistic Director of the Masters of Tradition Festival held in August each year at Bantry House in Bantry, West Cork. He was awarded the prestigious TG4 Musician of the Year Award in 2008.

In an event being organised by Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe, Martin Hayes will deliver two masterclasses with young musicians earlier in the day (both of which are fully booked) and he will perform in concert later that evening at 8pm in the Chapel of St.Mary’s College.

Tickets are available from Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe at 091 528965 / 086 0398044. For further information on the concert contact admin@mcng.ie, or check out www.mcng.com, or the Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe Facebook page.
