Fíbín break new ground with drive-in drama Fiach
Irish-language theatre company Fíbín is getting set to stage a new drive-in drama, Fiach, at its headquarters in Baile na hAbhann.
It’s an outdoor show that promises to “take you on a joy-ride of comedy, drama and suspense as a rebel Garda chases a local hoodlum into the underworld”.
This drive-in production in association with An Taibhdhearc Theatre will run from Monday, August 12, to Saturday, August 20, in South Connemara and will offer audiences a safe space in which to enjoy live theatre once more, according to the company’s Artistic Director, Philip Doherty.
“Fíbín wanted to rise to the challenge in making theatre that is safe but thrilling for a live audience. We’ve had to think outside the box, and if anything, it has pushed us to be inventive, and create new ideas,” says Philip who wrote and is directing Fiach, which stars award-winning actors Fionnuala Flaherty and Dara Devaney.
“With live music, projection and special effects, it is inspired by the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and An Toraíocht.
In what is a particularly horrendous time for freelance arts workers, this production is one “where theatre practitioners, from actors, to designers, to set-builders, can again collaborate in making a live show for a live audience”, he adds.
