FF top brass face storm

The Fianna Fail grassroots are bracing themselves for a major revolt if the party tries to replace the traditional selection convention for elections with an interview process.

This would effectively mean that the party could stage manage who they would put forward for election — and remove this task from the party faithful.

And the matter is likely to come to a head on Monday night when the party’s General Secretary Sean Dorgan comes to Galway to meet with the Galway West Comhairle Dail Ceantair.

But high ranking party officials are emphatically denying that conventions will become a thing of the past.

Instead sources say it will be a mix of both methods – with a selection process narrowing down the field and in some cases adding names to the ticket.
