FF in late bid to get O’Ceidigh to stand

FIANNA Fáil’s top-brass were involved in behind-the-scenes efforts late last night to persuade the Chairman of Aer Arann to stand in the European Elections following the shock decision of sitting MEP
Seán Ó Neachtain last week to pull out of the race.

After the two most obvious candidates – sitting Galway West TDs, Éamon Ó Cuív and Frank Fahey both categorically ruled themselves out of the race – the party has upped the pressure on entrepreneur Padraig Ó Céidigh to run.

And in an interview in Galway City over the weekend, the successful Connemara businessman confirmed that he had been approached to run by two political parties, including Fianna Fáil, and he refused to rule out the prospect.

Mr Ó Céidigh, who was a panel member at the Cúirt literary festival Leviathan debate at the Meyrick Hotel on Sunday night, gave the clear impression to the audience that he was ready and eager to enter politics.
